— Bud Reitnouer
OWNER, REITNOUER TRAILERS

"That's not lip service—that's boots on the ground trying to keep us in the area. Several states would have liked me to move, but staying in Berks was for the people that helped build the company. It was all about them."

In 1999, an equity group approached Bud about acquiring Reitnouer. The deal made strategic sense—papers were drawn up, and he was a day away from signing. He had one condition: trailers would continue to be built in Reading, Pa. As closing approached, the buyer started hinting at comparing costs with out-of-state operations. Bud walked away. "It wasn't for me. It was for the people that helped build the company."

People don't typically focus on program names or funding acronyms. What do they remember? Who showed up when things got hard. Who believed in them enough to take risks. Who stuck around year after year, not just for the ribbon-cutting moments, but for the difficult decisions in between. Those relationships translate into real economic impact—for Reitnouer, for its employees and for the region.
